July 10-14, 2017 Salisbury Christian School Extreme Percussion you can Sign up here

Join us for a fun camp exploring the aspects of rhythm using percussion instruments. The camp also develops teamwork, creativity, leadership, listening skills, musical concepts and much more. The Extreme Percussion camp is 9am- 3:30 pm daily from July 10-14,2017 for students from grades 5-10. The week will culminate with a special concert. Students will have a warm up activity each morning teaching cooperation and listening skills.

Drum circles for children promote multi-cultural learning, builds confidence, social skills, motor skills, boosts creativity and basic math skills. Kids like to make up songs and make up rhythms and helps with listening concentration and reaching goals.

Students will have a warm up activity each morning teaching cooperation and listening skills.  We will involve them in drumming games that facilitate musical concepts of hand to eye coordination.  Each day the students will participate in special sessions including: The Science of Sound, Drums and Melody, Sounds of Nature and African Drum History. They will also make a percussion instrument to use in the concert.

We will provide all drum and percussion instruments for each student and they will play a variety of African, Latin and percussion instruments. These include: Djembes, Dun Dun , shakers , tambourines, BoomWackers , bells, whirly tubes and various found or home made drums.

If you would like a drum that is no problem we can sell you a genuine African drum at a special camp rate. Let us know before the camp so we can make sure we have a drum available for you.

Drum facilitator Ted Nichols, from Drums Around the World will lead the camp. Mr. Nichols is a drum artist for MEINL Percussion.  As a percussionist he has been teaching all aspects of percussion for the last 44 years.  Ted currently teaches percussion at Salisbury University and has led world drum ensembles for the last 10 years.  In 2008, he traveled to Ghana with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Jazz Band while teaching percussion at UMES.  He studied the local African music and developed a passion for ethnic drumming.
